There are thousands of children and young people aged 0-17 in the New South Wales out-of-home care system needing a loving home. And while there are many caring individuals and families opening up their homes and lives to foster children, there remains an ongoing need for more carers.
We understand the decision to foster is a big one. You’ll first need to talk about it with the people close to you. The next step is to contact the Challenge Foster Care team to discuss your situation and your suitability as a foster carer. Once you become a carer you’ll be supported all the way by a dedicated caseworker and the Challenge team.

We urgently need dedicated people to provide care to children currently in motels and in need of a safe a nurturing home.

Sage* In the Northern Rivers region

Sage is a bubbly, energetic 11-year-old living in the Northern Rivers region. Despite facing a difficult road in her young life, she is working hard with her support team to overcome challenges and achieve her goals. However, a significant hurdle for Sage is the current shortage of foster carers, which has left her in an uncertain temporary situation, adding to the difficulties in her healing journey.

As an avid lover of horses and animals, Sage would thrive with a carer who can facilitate a relationship with animals or arrange horse-riding lessons. This could provide additional healing support for Sage, as animal bonding is often a powerful tool in helping those recovering from trauma.

Sage needs a carer who understands trauma-informed care and can provide intensive support when needed. Ideally, this would be someone with previous experience in caring for a child, but who does not currently have any children living with them.

If you believe you could provide Sage with the stable and caring home she needs, please contact our team to learn more.

Liam and Ethan* in the Dubbo Region

We are seeking a kind and nurturing foster carer or carers in the Dubbo region for two young brothers, Liam (6) and Ethan (4), who love spending time drawing, building, riding bikes, and enjoying other outdoor activities.

Both boys have additional needs that require understanding and care. Their health and developmental needs are supported by specialists and a team of professionals, and they thrive with a therapeutic and trauma-informed approach to care.

These brothers have strong family connections in the Dubbo area and benefit from regular visits with their extended relatives.

We’re looking for someone who can provide a stable, supportive home environment and work collaboratively with Allied Health Professionals to help them reach their potential. It’s important for the boys to stay together and maintain their sibling bonds, so a carer with the space and skills to support the boys and their needs would make an immense impact on their lives.

If you feel you could be the right person, please get in touch with our team.

Jack* in Sydney

Like most boys his age, Jack* loves to play outdoors and stay active, jump on the trampoline, climb trees, and engage fully with his environment.

Jack will soon be turning 4 and starting pre-school and is looking forward to making friends and taking part in everything school has to offer. Our team are trying to find a long-term placement for Jack where he can remain connected to his Allied Health support network, who provide him with speech and occupational therapy, behaviour support planning and physiology. Because he requires a little bit extra support, it would be best for Jack to have carers that don’t currently care for other children and are able to provide a stable and caring environment as he transitions to school.

If you’re in the Sydney region and feel like you can offer the long-term
care Jack needs, please get in touch with our team.
