Owen joined Challenge in 2016 working as their Partners In Recovery facilitator in the Narrabri area. He previously managed PHAMs, Homelessness Services and AOD services in Narrabri, Hunter Region and Cabramatta. Owen has diploma qualifications in Case Management, Mental Health and AOD, Counselling and is also a trainer who has taught Disability and Community Services courses. He currently works for Challenge Community Services Allied Health in Narrabri and surrounds delivering Mental Health services as a Psycho-Social Recovery Coach under the NDIS.
The NDIS has recognised that psycho-social disabilities often require a different approach than the usual Coordination of Supports model, and Challenge Community Services sees this as an important role and function. For Owen, it is also an important means of inter-agency cooperation and developing wrap around service models that can sometimes be too elusive in NDIS delivery. “The excitement is in seeing someone become what they can be.”
When he’s not working, he’s probably in the garden growing food, doing exercises (because he likes food) or reading something, anything. Books are doors to whole worlds of meaning and growth.
