Events in full swing
October was a busy month for our teams, filled with community engagement, celebrations, and a chance to connect with people across the region to discuss our range of support services and all things foster care.
Here’s a look back at the memorable events we attended and the wonderful communities we were privileged to meet.
Coastie Carnie Fair Day at Coastal Twist Festival
Our Foster Care and Disability Services teams had an incredible time at the Coastie Carnie Fair Day, part of the annual Coastal Twist Festival on the Central Coast, celebrating LGBTQIA+ arts and culture. The day was filled with lively chats, smiles, and a chance to discuss our services with festival-goers. We were especially thrilled to see Chloe, a resident from one of our Supported Independent Living homes, who joined us to enjoy the festivities. Her bright energy made the day even more special. We’re looking forward to coming back to this wonderful event again next year.
Newcastle Pride Inc Fair Day
Gregson Park in Newcastle was brimming with energy as we joined the Newcastle LGBTQIA+ community for the Newcastle Pride Fair Day. Our Foster Care and Disability Services teams were on hand to chat about foster care, community supports, and accommodation services with anyone interested in learning more. With entertainment, food and market stalls, and family activities, the event had something for everyone, and we were proud to be part of the celebration of diversity and inclusion in the Hunter region. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello.
Hunter Interagency Foster and Kinship Care Picnic
In honour of Foster Care Week, our Hunter Foster Care team attended the Hunter Interagency Foster and Kinship Care Picnic, an event that brought together 14 organisations to show appreciation for foster carers and young people in out-of-home care. We hosted a jewellery-making stall, where young ones could create something special to take home, and each child received a show bag filled with goodies from each organisation. It was a wonderful day full of connection and fun activities for our foster care families and staff.
A big thank you to NSW Department of Communities and Justice, The Mirabel Foundation, Barnardos Australia, CatholicCare Hunter-Manning, Key Assets Australia, My Forever Family NSW, and more, for making this day of celebration and gratitude possible. It was heartwarming to come together as a community to support our local foster care families.
Bengalla Community Open Day in Muswellbrook
Wrapping up October, our team attended the Bengalla Community Open Day in Muswellbrook, a bi-annual event showcasing local businesses and services at the Muswellbrook showground showground, hosted by Bengalla Mining Company. With around 8,000 visitors stopping by, it was a lively day, despite a bit of wind! John and Ian from Koora Industries represented our team, sharing information about our connection with Bengalla and engaging with the local community about the work we do. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with new faces and showcase our services.
October was all about connection, appreciation, and community spirit. We’re grateful to everyone who took the time to stop by, share a chat, and learn about the work we’re doing.
